Envision Madison

Envision-MadisonWhat will Madison County look like in 50 years?

Madison County is a rural county in Eastern Idaho that includes Rexburg and Sugar City. Citizens of this area face unique challenges as a rural community with a large and growing university that is Brigham Young University-Idaho.

How can the Rexburg and BYU-Idaho best work together to accommodate student housing needs and create a vibrant central city that everyone can enjoy? How can the area develop the jobs that will allow young people to stay in the community long term? What will activate the downtown and blend with the scale and charm of existing buildings and surrounding neighborhoods? These are among the questions Madison County's visioning process explores as we work with citizens and their leaders toward a vision for the future. Envision Madison is a community driven effort to help identify and develop a "vision" for the future of Madison County.

The goal of Envision Madison is to bring citizens together in a process that explores potential decisions to shape future growth. At the conclusion of the process, community leaders will know which planning strategies resonate with citizens and stakeholders. These strategies will serve as the basis for a vision. The vision will act as a voluntary framework to support land use planning, economic development, open space planning, and transportation in the city.

We invite you to join us in this effort to shape the future of our community for our children, grandchildren and all who choose to make Madison County their home. Please share with us your top five concerns or challenges that we as a community need to address. You can email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. The public workshops are the first step in this process.
