In early 2017, Envision Utah partnered with some of the most knowledgeable planners, designers, community development leaders, and other professionals to host the first annual Quality Communities Academy, a two-hour academy covering topics essential to the development of successful centers. This academy was be split into three segments, covering some of the most important topics and considerations for developing quality communities.
We held the first Quality Communities Academy on Saturday, January 21st, 2017. The event was a rousing success despite the snowstorm that hit the Wasatch Front early that morning.
Agenda Overview
How do we make communities fiscally sustainable?
• Compact growth to reduce per capita infrastructure costs
• Intense land uses in the right places to maximize the value of transportation investments
• Understanding the market-feasibility of different uses in different places
• Challenges and opportunities posed by the shift to online shopping
How do we ease congestion and improve convenient access to jobs/services/housing etc.?
• Connected street networks to disperse traffic and shorten routes
• Complete streets that feel safe to pedestrians and bicyclists
