ASPIRATIONAL VISION FOR THE ENVISION UTAH TEAM
The success of Envision Utah is dependent on professional, positive working relationships and on the trust and confidence we earn from our own team, committees, stakeholders, and the public. We accomplish our mission when we elevate one another and create and sustain communities that work for everyone. To this end, we, as Envision Utah staff, are committed to providing a workplace that is safe, welcoming, and supportive for all. In our work, we seek to engage Utahns of all backgrounds and to address and overcome historic inequities.
WE STRIVE TO:
Respect and accept individuals, regardless of backgrounds and beliefs.
We treat everyone with dignity and respect in order to create an environment where everyone can feel safe and valued. We do not criticize or make potentially hurtful jokes about anyone’s age, gender, race, ethnicity, beliefs, religion, political views, sexual orientation, or other characteristics. We respect and try to understand everyone’s viewpoints. We learn about and seek to overcome bias, whether conscious or unconscious. We are inclusive in our hiring and promotion practices.
Be advocates for one another.
We speak positively about and to each other, and we strive to elevate each other professionally. As we treat each other fairly and with respect, we try to make sure others treat our coworkers fairly and with respect. We speak up when needed to protect individuals from potentially hurtful, racist, or discriminatory comments or actions. We help each other see and correct our own hurtful, racist, or discriminatory comments or actions.
Be a team with strong, collegial relationships based on camaraderie and trust.
We spend time talking to each other and getting to know each other. We build supportive working relationships with each other. We give respectful, constructive feedback. We are willing to accept feedback, apologize, and improve. We forgive one another and give each other the benefit of the doubt.
Understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures.
We value and seek to understand other people’s lived experiences, personal values, and practices. We recognize the shortcomings of our own perspectives. We help each other and seek to collaborate with those who can help us become more culturally competent.
Build a future where every Utahn can thrive.
As we pursue our mission, we work to understand and advocate for the needs of people of color, low-income Utahns, those with disabilities, and others whose access to decision making power has historically been limited. We foster diversity in boards and committees and welcome people of all backgrounds in meetings and discussions.
