The Jordan River plays a vital role in our valley.

Blueprint Jordan River is the first comprehensive effort to develop a publicly supported vision of the entire Jordan River corridor. It includes an implementation framework to transform the once-neglected river corridor into a defining regional amenity.

The visioning process, completed in 2008, brought thousands of residents and their leaders together to capture "big ideas" about the river and explore how to realize them. A key result is the formation of the Jordan River Commission, a nonprofit that spearheads and supports implementation work in partnership with municipalities, community organizations and citizens.

The vision's big ideas include:

  • A contiguous lake-to-lake blue-green trail completing the 45-mile Jordan River Parkway trail and removing obstacles to boating the entire river corridor

  • Open space preservation and a 20-mile linear nature preserve

  • Regional and neighborhood river centers—mixed-use villages at developed areas that may include housing, restaurants, river-oriented shops, and small offices

  • Enhanced regional access tying the Parkway to transit, bicycle routes, and improved parking

  • Environmental education
