2020 common good awards

Once a year, Envision Utah hosts the Common Good Awards: a chance to recognize individuals and organizations who are doing great things to help make our communities a better place.

We normally love to get together to mix and mingle in person, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we've decided it best to host our event online. But don’t worry—we’ve still got an amazing speaker and two stellar Common Good Awards winners. And you can still even get a lunch out of the event!

Congratulations to this year’s awardees!

Comunidades Unidas
Empowering Utah's Latinx communities through initiatives in preventative health, financial wellbeing, immigration services, community engagement, and youth organizing.

Utah State University Extension
Elevating Utahns for over 100 years and pushing our state forward through outreach, research, and education.

Meet this year’s speaker!

We're excited to announce that our speaker this year is Nathaniel Hendren, Professor of Economics at Harvard University and a Founding Co-Director of Opportunity Insights.

In 2019, Nathaniel was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) having been nominated by the National Science Foundation. In his ongoing work with Opportunity Insights, he seeks to develop scalable policy solutions that will empower families throughout the United States to rise out of poverty and achieve better life outcomes.

Nathaniel's talk at the Common Good Awards will focus on upward mobility in Utah, what we know about policies that promote upward mobility, and the long-term impact the COVID-19 pandemic will have on upward mobility for low-income children especially.
