Utah is adding housing at different rates across the state, and the patterns matter for planning, policy, and community life. The Building Trends Explorer lets you see where new construction is happening at the neighborhood level across all 2,020 census block groups in Utah. Built in partnership with Socio, the tool draws on publicly available Census data and is designed to support the kind of informed, community-level conversations that drive better growth decisions.
Each circle is color-coded by the share of its housing stock built since 2020, with construction breakdowns, market context, and statewide benchmarks available when a marker is clicked. A layer from Harvard's Opportunity Atlas showing upward economic mobility can also be toggled on to visualize how growth trends relate to historic mobility.
